The Plight of the
Thai Temple Cats

By Chrissy Russell

Secretary TCC

ALL OF THE PHOTOS ABOVE WERE TAKEN EITHER BY MYSELF OR MY FRIENDS.

In January 2015, my daughter and I visited Thailand.

Before going I began to raise funds towards the care of the street and temple cats there. I opened a fundraising page for a colony of street cats living at Wat (temple) Taphan in Bangkok. One of my Thai import Burmese, Suay, was found there before I adopted her.

The original appeal has was e a memorial appeal for Lazzyruss, the IAMS TV commercial cat. He was bred by me and remained a beloved family pet for 14 years before passing away in 2014.

Our appeal is now in its third year, having raised over £2,500 since 2015. Please help by clicking on the link below.

With these donations, we have been able to neuter 40 cats at the temple, and provide food, medical care, isolation pens, flu, enteritis and rabies vaccinations and medical equipment.

There is much more to be done. Cats are arriving there regularly, the monks take in unwanted cats from anyone but are not allowed to accept money. It is estimated there are over 1 million street cats in Bangkok alone, and all of the temples help as best they can but they are swamped. Our little charity is blossoming. But from little acorns, mighty oaks grow.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our team of volunteers in Bangkok.

And also a huge thank you to our craft volunteers in the UK, who in October 2017 started making cat related items for us to sell at shows, through social media, and hopefully soon, online.

And all of the other people who have donated money, or given their time and expertise, and of course the monks at all of the temples throughout Thailand, who give food and shelter to these beautiful cats.

Please see below how to donate in your own currencies, and also how to donate by UK bank transfer.
